We understand that our mine operates within the community.
We are well aware that it is important to consider the social
and environmental impacts of our business on the community.
It is understandable that our primary business objective
is to operate efficiently and profitably. It is also understandable
that we have an obligation to operate in a way that optimizes
the use of South African mineral resources and the economic
growth of the community, the region and the country, and we
strive to do this. Furthermore, the environment and people
affected by our activities (including our own workplace) are
central to the planning and implementation of our operations.
We further aim substantially and meaningfully to expand employment
and spinoff business opportunities for historically disadvantaged
people, including women, and thereby hope to contribute to
the advancement and social and economic welfare of all South
Africans.
Job creation, training and skills development are keys to
the development of sustainable economic initiatives within
the community.
In short, we take our responsibilities to the community
and all other stakeholders very seriously.
